Web tag

The one script that puts your ShowPilot agents on your website, and how it decides which agent to show.

The web tag is how your agents reach visitors on your website. It's a single script you add to every page of your site. It's the same for every page and every agent. When a page loads, the tag asks ShowPilot which agent belongs there, using your Targeting rules, and shows it.

That means you install the tag once. After that, you change which agent appears where in ShowPilot, without editing your site again.

This article covers getting the tag, where to paste it, and what to check when it shows nothing.

How do you get the tag?

Go to Settings → Web Tag and select Copy Code under Embed snippet. The tag looks like this:

<script src="https://cdn.showpilot.com/widget/v1/app.js" type="text/javascript" defer></script>

Paste it just before the closing </body> tag on every page where an agent should be available. The tag loads after the rest of your page, so it doesn't hold up your content. For where to paste it in common site builders, see Put your agent on your site.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a different tag for each agent or page?

No. One tag works for every agent. Targeting picks the agent.

Is it safe to put the tag on pages with no agent?

Yes. On a page with no matching path, or an excluded page, the tag shows nothing.

Will the tag slow down my page?

The tag loads after the rest of your page, so it doesn't hold up your content.
