Connect Pardot

Match visitors to your Pardot prospects using the Salesforce connection you already have.

Connect Pardot and ShowPilot recognizes the prospects your marketing team already knows. When a visitor is a Pardot prospect, ShowPilot matches them and brings their company into the conversation inbox, next to what Salesforce knows.

Pardot runs on your Salesforce connection, so there's no second login. You add your Pardot Business Unit Id and ShowPilot starts matching visitors to Pardot prospects. ShowPilot reads prospects and never edits them.

This article covers what Pardot provides, how to connect it, and how to check it's working.

What does ShowPilot read from Pardot?

  • Known prospects. When a visitor shares an email, ShowPilot matches them to a Pardot prospect and brings their company into the conversation inbox, next to what Salesforce knows.
  • Returning prospects, before they type. If your Pardot tracking runs as first-party tracking on your own domain, ShowPilot can also recognize a returning prospect from their Pardot cookie. With Pardot's default third-party tracking this doesn't apply.

When Salesforce and Pardot both know a visitor, Salesforce wins every field group except lifecycle, where Pardot wins. The Source priority screen lists Salesforce and HubSpot only, so you can't reorder Pardot there today.

Before you start

  • Salesforce connected in ShowPilot. See Connect Salesforce.
  • Your Pardot Business Unit Id. In Salesforce Setup, search Business Unit Setup and copy the 18-character id. It starts with 0Uv.

How do you connect Pardot?

Open the Pardot page

Go to Settings → CRM & Sales tools and select the Pardot card.

If Salesforce isn't connected yet, the page shows Connect Salesforce instead of the form. Connect Salesforce first, then come back.

Reconnect Salesforce if asked

If your Salesforce connection was made before Pardot support, the page shows Reconnect Salesforce to enable Pardot. Select Reconnect Salesforce and approve the request in Salesforce. Nothing else about your Salesforce connection changes.

Add your Business Unit Id

Paste the id into Business Unit Id and select Connect Pardot.

How do you disconnect Pardot?

Select Disconnect on the Pardot page and confirm. Prospect matching stops right away. Your Salesforce connection is unaffected.

Test it

Pardot is working when a known prospect shows up with their company:

  1. Open your website in a private window and chat with your agent.
  2. Give the agent the email address of a Pardot prospect.
  3. Open the conversation in ShowPilot and check that the visitor shows the prospect's company.

Frequently asked questions

Does ShowPilot change my Pardot prospects?

No. ShowPilot reads prospects and never edits them.

Do I need a separate Pardot login?

No. Pardot runs on your Salesforce connection. You only add your Business Unit Id.

Why aren't returning prospects recognized before they type?

That needs Pardot's first-party tracking on your own domain. With the default third-party tracking, prospects are matched when they share an email.

Does disconnecting Pardot affect Salesforce?

No. Your Salesforce connection keeps working. Disconnecting Salesforce, though, stops Pardot too.
